OK! So last week I said that Brian Williams with NBC Nightly News had reported 24 million Americans are affected by diabetes and that 50 million more people are on track to get the disease.
HOLY *&^$!
Those numbers are definitely of epidemic proportion!
Type II diabetes can be caused by life style~excess body weight,lack of exercise, and poor diet choices. Interestingly enough, 95% of diabetics that have type II diabetes are the poor and don't have access to health care.
How do we get the education and the resources to those who need it most?
A national dilemma, indeed!
As an ICU nurse, I see what horrors these people endure after they roll into the ER and land in one of my beds either as a result of a diabetic complication or, a result of the multitude of health problems related to diabetes. I'm talking heart disease, stroke, and kidney failture.
What are we going to do?
Total FRUSTRATION!
