#SEXYSNIPPETS~8

Happy New Year! This is the first #SexySnippets of 2017!! I want to thank the lovely Doris O'Connor for hosting us each week and putting everything together.  This week's snippet comes from my upcoming release, Chicks Dig Scars, which has an April, 2017 release date. It's still unedited, so be kind.

All alone at this time of night creeped her out. Normally, if she were the last to leave the hospital this late, she’d have security escort her to her car. Her blinding grief and pain drove her to leave so fast, that she’d forgotten the time of day. Grabbing her key fob from her purse she quickly unlocked the door to her Camry and slid in behind the wheel.

“Rachel, there’s no time to lose. You must get over to my house right away,” Seamus said as he materialized in the front passenger seat beside her with a burst of blinding light. There was an urgency to his gentle Irish lilt that’s she’d never heard before.

Somehow, Rachel wasn’t surprised at Seamus’ sudden appearance. Maybe this whole I’m your dead patient and I’m going to haunt you thing was growing on her.

*****

That's all I have for now! Here's a bit more about my upcoming release~

BLURB

When death steps in...

Committed and compassionate intensive care nurse, Rachel O'Dea will do anything to save her patients. But when she loses a kind and loving man whom she forged a fatherly relationship with, Rachel unravels.

...or so everyone thinks.

The calm and soothing voices Rachel hears and the apparitions she sees are of the deceased man and his late wife as they navigate and persuade her to make important choices in her life, leading her right where she's supposed to be.

Free clinic doctor, Devon Jameson, needs more hands on deck. He can't possibly handle all the medical cases alone. When Rachel walks in, volunteering her services, he knows he has no choice other than to take her on board as she proves her worth when a pediatric trauma is left on his doorstep and there’s no one else to assist. As the two begin working together, their lives intertwine and the attraction intensifies. Scarred deeply by their past and their pain, Rachel and Devon begin a future only angels could predict.

~THURSDAY FUNNY~

New Year's resolutions anyone? LOL. I started back on my exercise and healthy eating program on Monday. Exercise is sheer torture... If it were up to me, this would be my exercise routine 😂

After I get back into the routine my body hurts so bad. Logically, I know it's a release of lactic acid into the muscle tissue, but damn! My husband teases me because I'm such a baby about the soreness. Usually, his response is something like this:

LOL. He's always saying it's a "good soreness" but I have to disagree. So tomorrow I know I will be looking a bit like this and unable to move:

So... do you have any New Year's Resolutions? Drop me a comment. I'd love to know what you're planning for 2017!

MIDWEEK TEASE~8~

Good morning and happy Hump Day!! It's time for your weekly tease, the brain child of Angelica Dawson. A special thanks to Angelica for hosting us each week. This week's tease comes from my yet untitled wip.  My Phoenix just found out her sexual powers of persuasion aren't working on her new assignment and now we are in my exiled Navy doctor's point of view...this is unedited so please be kind. :)

Sam stared at the beautiful creature before him; anger and lust a heady combination. He struggled to keep balance. No way in hell did he need this…this whatever the fuck she was to remind him of the events that had led him to his ostracism from society. The details of which were none of her fucking business. The accusations of the U.S. government that had ended in a court marshal and dishonorable discharge from the Navy he’d given his entire life to had crushed him. The disappointment and accusation in his father’s gaze the last time he’d seen him rose before in Sam’s memory. Sam shook his head to clear it of the ugliness of that day. No matter how hard he’d tried to explain that his classified lab research had been stolen, used to murder thousands of innocent people in the South Pacific. The only thing that had saved him from being thrown in the brink was the lack of concrete evidence to prove Sam was the one at fault. But he knew. Knew the truth of what had happened.

His gaze shifted to the creature before him. She rubbed her wrists, confusion in her eyes. Eyes the color of a polished Tiger’s Eye—alternating bands of rich yellow and golden brown. Ghastly purplish marks marred her creamy skin from where he’d grabbed her. Guilt tore through his gut along with an undercurrent of surprise. He hadn’t expected this being to be vulnerable. She’d exuded nothing but confidence and oozed seductive power since she’d shown up here unannounced. Something deep inside him softened.

“I’m sorry.” He scraped a hand through his damp hair. “I didn’t mean to hurt you.” His voice sounded rusty from disuse, even to his own ears. Evidence of just how alone he’d been for so long. “Agent…whatever your name is. Your Council’s problems aren’t my concern. So leave,” he ground out. “Now.”

“Wilder,” she said and smiled. Confident mask in place once more. “Agent Tatum Wilder, Captain Murphy.”

A simple curve of her lips and Sam’s knees nearly buckled. A warmth and sunny brilliance shone through. Wilder… The name suited her, he thought. Sam remembered the scent of her as she’d stood so near, touching him. She smelled of sunshine, pure, natural radiant sunshine. Sam did a double take. What the hell did sunshine even smell like? He wasn’t making any sense. Damn succubus or whatever the fuck she was must have scrambled his brains a bit when she’d touched him.

He stiffened his spine and held his footing in a weak attempt to keep his knees from buckling. Never in his life had he witnessed anything so beautiful. She reached out and caressed his bearded cheek with tentative fingers. Dimly, wondered how’d she’d gotten so close to him. Hadn’t he just shoved her across the room? An undercurrent of electricity pulsed through her fingertips.

“This isn’t exactly how this was supposed to play out. I had envisioned a night of hot, steamy sex, wrought with nothing but pleasure,” she said. Regret colored her words. “But since my powers of seduction aren’t working on you,” she dropped her hand and mumbled something under her breath that sounded like “damn atchoo”. She turned and planted herself on his couch and flipped her long fiery hair over her shoulder. “Guess we will have to do this the old fashioned way,” she grumbled, clearly put out. “Will you at least listen carefully to what I have to say?”

She’d lost him at hot, steamy sex.

~THURSDAY FUNNY~PET PEEVES~

Who here is a Grey's Anatomy fan? Honestly, I've never watched an episode of Grey's. The details just aren't true to life (as evidenced by the above photograph) and my OCD can't take it. I always end up yelling at the TV. LMAO.

My daughters are HUGE Grey's fans. Between school and work and their individual home lives they do find time to binge watch Grey's and I love how much they adore the show and the medical field. One is in nursing school and the other has plans to get into the medical field. #ProudMomma here.

One thing that is extremely important to me is getting the medical details in my books as true to life as possible and communicating those details in a way that my readers can understand. I want you all to see my "world" as vividly as I do and to know that nurses, doctors, respiratory therapists, phlebotomists, radiology techs, etc... are human.

What you won't see in my books-- doctors drawing a patient's blood, serving them lunch, walking a patient in the hallway, going to a patient's house to search for "evidence" as to why a patient is sick... That stuff just doesn't happen in real life.

The inaccuracies of medical dramas on TV annoy the crap out of me. Here's another example.  I think it was on the show, Chicago Med. The EMS crew is shouting out a patient report as they roll into the ER. Oxygen saturation is in the toilet and patient is in severe respiratory distress. Glancing at the TV, I see the patient. She has a nonrebreather oxygen mask in place.

Here is a picture of a nonrebreather face mask.

Pictured in a nonrebreather face mask on a mannequin. Oxygen is off. The reservoir bag in not inflated.

Here is a nonrebreather face mask placed properly with oxygen on! See how the bag is inflated?

So getting back to the medical drama that came on immediately after the show I was watching ended and the EMS crew bringing in the respiratory distress patient in with the patient's oxygen level in the toilet... I glance at the TV and the damn nonrebreather they have the patient on is completely flat!! No oxygen getting to the patient whatsoever!!! Grrrr.... So I tell the TV, "Turn the damn oxygen on and your patient may be able to breathe better!!"

My husband is all, "Honey, it's just a television show."

My response, "So! They at least need to get the details right!" I promptly changed the channel, wondering what else the writers on the show (who pay medical professionals to guide them to get those details right) get wrong. This stuff comes into people's living rooms and the nation sees this stuff and think that what they're seeing is the norm.

So, please know that not everything on TV is real. I think the majority realize this. Thank goodness! And when I write a scene depicting real life medical drama... the details of the injury or medical diagnosis will be accurate even though the situation and patient I'm writing about at the time will all be fiction. And fiction gives me the creative license I need to have fun with what I do. Here's a great example of a medical scene where the details of the injury and how we treat the injury is all real, but the interaction between the hospital staff and with the patient is so much fun to write.  It's taken from the 2nd book of my Dating Series, Dating Impossible.

JJ entered PGH’s bustling emergency room with a new-found confidence. Her morning meditation had done wonders to lift her sagging spirits. Expertly applied makeup and eye drops hid her night’s cry-filled obsession. When she returned home tonight, she’d submit her resume to the other hospitals she’d considered before choosing PGH. The plan helped to alleviate some of the torment she’d experienced since leaving Kazimier.

JJ scanned the bustling computer screens above the main nurses’ station that had all the patients who were already checked in listed by medical record number only. This protected patient confidentiality. Alice sat with her head bent over her keyboard, efficiently pounding out orders on the chart before her. Beside her stood Jake. JJ liked his sunny disposition. She was glad he was working today as he was sure to lift her spirits and distract her from her worrisome thoughts.

“Wow. We’re hopping already,” she said to Jake. She glanced around, saw several others scurrying from one room or the next in their haste to get tasks done for the patients. “Ah, who’s in charge today?”

“Rhonda,” he replied, handing her a fresh chart with a charming smile that lit up his dark brown eyes. “She said when I saw you to send you in to the trauma bay. They’re bringing in a GSW to the chest. I’ve set the room up and the trauma team has been called. Most are already gathered, waiting. ETA five minutes.” He chuckled. “Nothing like starting your twelve-hour shift off with a bang.”

JJ rolled her eyes. “That’s a really bad pun, Jake.” If Rhonda was in charge, that meant no Angie. Relief flooded her. It was usually one or the other. Luck was on her side. JJ’s spirits rose even higher. “How old is the victim?”

He lowered his head covered in short, rich dark brown curls and scrutinized a yellow sticky note. “Twenty-two.”

“Young, but at least it’s not a child,” she said. Working with injured children was emotionally exhausting, especially if they didn’t survive. She wasn’t sure if she could manage that kind of rollercoaster today. JJ set the clipboard on the counter and removed her white doctor’s coat, hanging it on the row of pegs that lined one wall of the nurses’ station. Clip board in hand once more, she turned to head toward the trauma bay then stopped abruptly.

“You coming?” she asked Jake.

“No. I’m handling triage today. Angie’s your nurse. She’s already in there,” he replied.

Angie? All of JJ’s earlier cheeriness burst like a black rain cloud, drenching her morale. Acid burned the back of her throat as her stomach roiled. She was stuck with that bat-shit jealous RN?

Fuck me…

The distant sirens of the ambulance roused JJ from her gloominess. She could do this. She was a fucking professional after all. Straightening her shoulders and standing to her full height, she strode with purpose to the trauma bay. Angie was just going to have to fucking get over her bitchy self.

Upon entering the room, JJ found the team was indeed assembled. Employees from each department stood by all dressed in yellow isolation gowns, latex-free gloves, and facemasks with clear visor shields to protect from blood splatter. X-ray techs, phlebots, and nurses stood by expectantly waiting for JJ’s orders. As the only doctor in the room, she would lead.

She spotted Angie off to the side, clipboard in hand. Hatred spewed from the woman’s blue eyes. JJ ignored her and gowned, gloved, and masked. The paramedics slammed through the trauma doors with the victim on the gurney. JJ’s adrenaline coursed through her veins. Angie forgotten, she concentrated on what the EMS team’s field report.

“Twenty-two-year-old male shot in the chest. No breath sounds left upper lobe. BP 86/42. Heart rate 146. Resps 35 per minute…”

On the count of three, the patient was moved from stretcher to hospital gurney. The motion was swift and expertly done, but the patient moaned and shouted cuss words as the jostling caused more pain. “Take it easy! That fucking hurts, man.”

JJ smoothly stepped to the head of the gurney. “Sorry about that, my friend. But there’s no help for it. Everything we do is going to hurt right now. We will give you pain meds as we can, but you’ve lost a lot of blood and your blood pressure is dangerously low. Can you tell me what happened?”

“Nothing, man.” His voice was muffled and a bit tinny through the oxygen face mask he wore. “I was just walking down the street minding my own business,” he said. His tone was defensive mixed with just a bit of smugness that was typical.

JJ rolled her eyes. Pretty much the standard answer she’d expected. The truth was he’d been shot by a store clerk while trying to steal the money from the cash register. “What’s your name?” As she spoke, she listened to his chest, observed the unequal fall with each short rapid breath he struggled to inhale. His pale skin was slick with sweat, and the blood-stained gauze dressing just under his left nipple was peeled up along the corners. She removed it, examined the wound, and fired off rapid orders to the team. “Stat chest, full trauma panel including type and cross for four units packed cells and keep two units ahead. Set up for chest tube insertion and call the cardio-thoracic surgeon on call.”

Everyone scrambled to do her bidding. All except Angie, who stood leaning against the wall with the X-ray viewers, clipboard clasped to her chest. As the head nurse, Angie was supposed to be recording and coordinating JJ’s orders.

“What the fuck, Angie? Get your ass moving. I need that chest tube tray now, not in the next millennium,” JJ said.

At the bite in JJ’s voice, all motion ceased for a fraction of a second. Glances were shared, and the only sound came from the patient himself as he writhed, moaned, and shouted expletives of his own. Angie’s gaze threw fire-sheathed daggers at JJ, but she grudgingly pushed off the wall and did as instructed. The monitor above the gurney screamed and flashed the current vital signs. His blood pressure dropped to 60/29. Heart rate up to 180s. Oxygen saturation now read 85 percent. All activity resumed with renewed vigor.

“Slam in two units of uncrossed matched O negative packed cells,” JJ said reviewing the X-ray film Grant handed her. Hemo/pneumo thorax. Just as she’d suspected. “Okay, people. Let’s drain the blood out of his chest and get him prepped for surgery.”

“Well, Marty,” JJ said, addressing the patient using the name he’d given her moments before. “Here’s the deal. I’ve got some good news and some bad news.” She spoke in a soothing voice, trying to calm his anxiety. “Which do you want first?”

He grimaced. “Just fucking say it, Doc.”

“The bad news first then,” JJ said brightly, giving Ambra the go-ahead nod. “The bullet in your chest has lodged near a major artery. You’re going to need to surgery to remove it and repair the damage. But first I need to place a drain in your chest to evacuate the blood that has pooled in there and that has collapsed your lung. Do you understand?”

“I’m fucked, right? I don’t want to die,” he said, his dark brown eyes were wide with fear.

“Not necessarily,” JJ answered as she changed into a sterile gown and prepared to place the chest tube. “We have a couple of great surgeons that are experts at putting chests damaged like yours back together. Don’t you want to know the good news?” she asked, her voice cheery as she picked up the scalpel from the sterile field of instruments to her side.

Gaze glued to the sharp instrument in her gloved hand, he gulped. “W-w-what?”

“The good news”—JJ pointed to Ambra—“is that my best friend here is an expert respiratory therapist. And Matt there” —she motioned to Matt standing opposite side of the gurney— “Matt is going to sedate your lying, stealing ass, knocking you out while Ambra places a tube into your mouth where the tip goes into your windpipe. So, essentially, we will be breathing for you.”

Marty squirmed on the gurney in an attempt to escape. “You’re fucking crazy! That’s not good news!” His slurred speech and half-hearted effort told JJ the sedatives were beginning to work.

“Sure it is,” JJ replied. “That means, when I use this” —she wiggled the sharp scalpel in her hand— “you won’t feel a thing. Some ER doctors aren’t as generous as I.” She chuckled.

I live for this shit!

“Now, Marty, lay back and relax. This won’t hurt a bit…”

MIDWEEK TEASE~7~

Happy Hump Day and welcome to this week's tease! Midweek Tease is put together each week by the wonderful Angelica Dawson where we all get to share a small slice of a published book or a work in progress. Comments are encouraged and most welcome! :)

This week's tease comes from my book Dating 911. My nurse, Roxanne Carter, finds herself in a bit of a predicament....

******

Unyielding hands suddenly yanked her onto the gurney, her arms pinned between her body and Ralph’s chest.

Her expelled breath exploded in a muffled “oommf”. With wide eyes, she stared down into Ralph’s lecherous face. He was definitely awake, and a lot stronger than she would’ve imagined.

“Ralph. Let me go,” she said through gritted teeth, trying to breathe through her mouth so she wouldn’t hurl.

“Sure, sugar, after you give me a little kiss.” His words slurred and his fetid breath fanned her face as he spoke. Dry cracked lips puckered as he levered his head toward hers.

She reared back as far as possible within his firm grasp, and twisted her head. His sticky kiss met her neck. Revulsion clawed her skin. Dodging his torpedo tongue by rotating her head back and forth, she called for help. Ralph was still drunk. Experience with drunks in the ER had taught her he wouldn’t listen to her commands while still under the influence.

Just when she thought things couldn’t get worse, his free hand stroked down her back and rested on her butt.

“Now, Ralph, you need to let me go. You’ve had too much to drink and are in the emergency room. I’m trying to help you.”

God, how could I have been so stupid as to let my mind wander off my work?

He squeezed her bottom.

“Oh!” Crap! She needed a new plan—-and fast.

“Can I be of assistance?” a familiar baritone drawled.

Another swoop of Ralph’s mouth had her on the defensive before she could glance at the doorway. “What do you think?” she snapped. “Could you hurry?”

“Well, I’d be happy to come to your rescue. But what’s in it for me?”

Shock infused her system. Her head veered toward the cool voice filled with laughter. She stiffened. Jett leaned against the door jam. Helmet under his arm, face smeared with soot, he must have had a recent battle with a fire, but his deep grey eyes danced with mischief.

This was her savior? Lord, help her!

Diverted by the sight of Jett, Ralph licked a trail of slime from the side of her neck to her ear. She shuddered even as bile rose. Roxanne swallowed—-hard.

Yuck! This was all Jett’s fault. If he hadn’t distracted her in the first place, her attention wouldn’t have strayed from her work.

“Listen,” she said through clenched teeth. “Isn’t it your job to serve and protect? Get over here and get me off him, or call someone who will.”

“That’d be the police, sweetheart.” He chuckled. “The motto of the PFD is ‘Survive, Prevent Harm and Be Nice’. I might be persuaded to be nice and get you out of your dilemma on one condition,” he said in his slow, lazy drawl. “Have dinner with me.”

“What?” She dodged another amorous advance of Ralph’s lips, and twisted again to glare at Jett. He’d moved from the doorway and slowly advanced toward them. Hope flared.

“A woman in your position can’t be too picky in your choice of rescuers. Take me, babe, or leave me. Isn’t one dinner worth the price of your freedom?”

His words doused the kernel of hope before the emotion had taken root. “Forget it,” she stated flatly. “Cruz!”

“Sorry, but my brother is outside in the ambulance bay with a truck that rolled in hot, red lights and all, along with the rest of the available staff. Code three, I think. I’m all you’ve got. But, hey!” He shrugged and turned to leave. “I know when I’m not wanted. I’m not a completely heartless bastard. I’ll let someone know about your trouble with old Ralph. They’ll get in here…eventually.”

Another squeeze to her backside from Ralph’s wandering hand changed her mind. “Wait! Don’t go!” Panic heightened her anxiety. Her heart thumped against her ribcage, and her breath came in short pants. She continued to struggle against Ralph’s ardent advances. “I’ll have dinner with you. Just get his hands off me.”

Jett turned and advanced on the gurney. Roxanne held her breath expectantly.

“Listen, man. You’ve got a hold of my woman. My baby only kisses me. Right, honey?” With a wink, Jett easily disengaged her from Ralph’s passionate embrace and draped a possessive arm around her waist. Heat from his palm seeped into her scrubs and singed her skin.

My woman? My baby?

She wiped at the drool stuck to the side of her face and neck, shuddering. Sidestepping out of Jett’s enthusiastic embrace, she whirled on Ralph to make sure he was still safe on the gurney.

Seemingly exhausted from his zealous effort, he held his arms toward her. “Come here, darlin’,” he slurred. “I need you.”

“What you need, buddy, is to dry out. Now lie back and behave,” she said in a stern tone. Placing a palm on his chest, Roxanne shoved with just enough force to ease him back into a prone position.

He slumped against the pillow and sighed. A half-smile curved his lips. She shed her gloves, straightened her scrubs, and rushed to the sink to wash away Ralph’s enthusiastic affection. A masculine chuckle reminded her of her “savior’s” presence. She met his gaze in the mirror. Grey eyes twinkled with amusement, triggering her anger.

“Is that the fastest you move? It’s a good thing I wasn’t in a raging inferno, or I’d be dead!” she whirled around and plunked her hands on her hips.

Jett’s charming mask slipped for a fraction of a second. He recovered, casting her a cool smile complete with eyebrow wiggle. “All I need to know is what time to pick you up tonight, sweetheart.”

This week's snippet comes from my April, 2017 release, Chicks Dig Scars. Rachel has been hauled into the nurse manager's office for her recent behavior... Edited to try and fit parameters.

“You aren’t serious? Thirty days?" Rachel sucked in a harsh breath. "Come on! This is ridiculous!"

“As a heart attack,” Marion said. She winced, obviously realizing her poor choice of words.

Just grind coarse rock salt in my open wounds, why don’t you?

“You’ve left me no choice, Rachel,” Marion went on. “People heard you talking to Mr. Jameson while you were prepping him for the morgue and they practically had to pry you off of the poor man’s body during the code.”

“That’s not what happened,” Rachel insisted. “Sometimes I talk to myself as I work through problems. Lots of people do it.”

Ya, Right. But do they also see ghosts?

~MAN CANDY FRIDAY~

It's FRIDAY!!! You know what that means.... Man Candy! Woot! I saw this guy and immediately thought of my character in my 3rd book in my Dating Series that I'm currently working on, Foster Brooks. The book is titled Dating Trouble and will be released next year.  He's a good old boy from Georgia.

Here's a sneak peek of my heroine and hero from Dating Trouble...

*****

Why was Kyle being such a prick about this? They’d had a good time together, hadn’t they? Well, until he’d started getting too clingy. Why did guys have to turn into barnacles and ruin a good thing? She wasn’t one of those chicks that liked to snuggle or talk after sex. Usually, the guys she hooked up with liked that about her. Usually… An irritated sigh escaped her and she increased her already brisk pace.

Over and over her thoughts raced, clashed, and tumbled winding her into a frenzy. Ambra gulped in air as the pressure built within her chest as a panic attack threatened to overwhelm her. When was the last time she’d had a fucking panic attack? Not in several years. Not since she’d gotten her shit together and left her old life behind for good. A hand grasped her shoulder. Kyle! In her agitation and anger she spun around and her fist delivered her best right hook to a perfectly sculpted jaw.

Ow! Jesus H Christ, Sugar! I didn’t mean to startle you. Kyle told me that you’re supposed to show me around this place.”

His southern drawl reminded her of her hometown in Georgia and was vaguely familiar. Ambra blinked. Her hand throbbed. She shook it and moved the fingers gingerly. Nothing seemed to be broken, but… Her gaze flew to the face her fist had kissed harshly. She stared at her knuckles then at the guy, mortified. His head was bent down as he rubbed his cheek. A beat up old Atlanta Braves cap shielded his face.

“I’m so sorry. I thought you were someone else. Well, not that that matters, but I truly am sorry. I shouldn’t have let him under my skin.” She exhaled a slow breath and fought for control. Her emotions were on one of the worst roller coasters of her entire life. First daddy showing up and drinking himself to death in front of her just like he had right after momma died; and now all this bullshit at work, which had been her only solace lately. “Are you ok?”

“You haven’t changed a bit,” he said in that same slow accent that twisted her stomach with trepidation as recognition struck her hard in the chest and sent a fresh shock of adrenaline through her heart.

Oh, no. It couldn’t be. Please don’t let it be…

Ambra stared, probably with her jaw on the floor, as the ball cap lifted and his face came into view. The prayer of ‘please no’ died inside her mind as his features matched that oh so sexy voice. A voice she had never forgotten no matter how much she’d tried over the years. Ambra was instantly transported back in time to high school. Shock infused her senses as his name whispered through her mind. Foster Brookes, the boy she was supposed to meet under the football field bleachers the night she’d run away from home. Idealistic and fancying herself in love, she’d been about to ask him to leave with her. Only, he’d never showed. He was her first kiss… her first dance… well, her first everything.

Reality slammed into her. What had he said? You haven’t changed a bit. Ambra crossed her arms over her chest and narrowed her gaze. “Yes. I. Have,” she said, punctuating each word. She was no longer the pathetic white trash from that wretched trailer park in Southern Georgia. She’d even trained herself to speak without the telltale hick accent that only prompted people to ask her where she was from and dredge up memories she worked hard to forget. Resentment burned. Why did he have to show up now and remind her of things better left long buried? First her father, now Foster. What the hell have I done to Karma to deserve this bullshit? She stared at the man, remembering that one summer that had changed her forever.

One dark brow lifted at her reply. “Bad day, Sugar?”

~THURSDAY FUNNY~

Happy Thursday all! It's almost the weekend! yay! I found this the other day and I had to laugh because my dad who (bless his heart) recently passed at the age of 96 years old was always obsessed with his bowels LOL. It came to a point where my sister and I always had to hide the laxatives because if he got a hold of them... HOLY SHIT! 😂😂😂😂

Enjoy the rest of your day!

~MIDWEEK TEASE~5~

Good morning and happy Hump Day!! It's time for your weekly tease, the brain child of Angelica Dawson. This week's tease comes from a wip I gave you a snippet from on Sunday's #SexySnippets and picks up where I'd left off Sunday. My exiled Navy Captain has just encountered a supernatural being, my version of a supernatural CIA agent in the isolated snowy mountains of the Sierra Nevada and he's trying to figure out what he's dealing with and why she's come to see him. I love this story. I hope to get it finished by the middle of next summer. Enjoy!

“Relax, Rockstar. I’m not going to eat you,” she said in a husky tone, enjoying the feel and scent of the human male against her. “And, for your information, I’m not a vampire. If I were, you’d be drained already,” she said, voice filled with unspoken promise. “They have the self control of a mosquito. Why don’t we go inside your cozy little cabin, sit by the fire, and… talk.” With reluctance, she released him and headed toward the porch, hips sashaying with anticipation. Her body hummed with renewed vigor for the sex to come.

The weight of his angry stare bore into her backside as she walked up the steps to the front door. Anticipation and impatience rumbled through her system. With a flick of a wrist, she grasped the axe handle and dislodged the blade from the door. “Come along, Sam. I’m hot, needy, and want your stiff cock inside me. How about we get to the good stuff first, explanations later? Whaddya say?”

“Must be a bloody Succubus,” he grumbled following her inside. He closed the door against the blackened frosty night.

“Wrong again,” Tatum declared, surveying the neat, but sparsely furnished room. “For a human, you certainly seem to know a lot about supernatural beings, except the one you’re dealing with at the moment. But then again, we’ve managed to keep our lore mostly to ourselves. Better that way. Besides, humans are obsessed with vampires and werewolves,” she said with disdain. “They’re so five minutes ago.”

The embers of a fire still burned within an ancient large cobblestoned fireplace that encompassed one wall of the sparse living quarters. A beaten up leather couch sat in the middle of the room facing the hearth. There was another door that led to what she guessed was the kitchen and a spiral staircase heading to the second floor in the opposite corner of the room. Other than a scarred up coffee table and a matching end table with another lantern lit upon the scratched surface, the room was void of any real personality. No photos. No personal mementos. Reminded her of a monk’s cell of old. It was as if the good Captain was still punishing himself. Humans… always glorifying in self-misery.

Like you once had? She shook her head to clear it of senseless thoughts almost forgotten. Hell, she hadn’t had those kinds of memories in over a millennia.

“Then what the fuck are you?” Sam said hands fisted on his hips. “More importantly, what the fuck do you want?”

The anger and distrust in his voice brought Tatum back to the present. Edgy and full of a need she hadn’t experienced in probably eight centuries, she amped up the flow of power that hummed just beneath the surface of her skin. She didn’t have time for this shit. Time to get the show on the road as humans of old used to say.

“I told you who I was,” she said, voice saturated with a femme fatale’s special brand of honey-dipped persuasion. “I’m Agent Tatum Wilder.” Power surged, her heart raced, her core body temperature rose involuntarily as she struggled to maintain breaths controlled and even. Attempting a seduction so near her impending Akthuá was a tricky thing. A younger, less experienced Phoenix couldn’t maintain the control needed, but not Tatum. “I’m here for you, Sam. The Sun Counsel needs your help and in return, you will have your reputation restored and be able to come out of exile.”

As she spoke, she closed the distance between them. One by one, she unbuttoned his flannel shirt, her tawny, golden gaze fixated on his hazel eyes. The intensity of her persuasion rose with each word she spoke. Flannel parted, she slid the damp fabric from his broad shoulders. His biceps flexed as her fingertips lightly grazed the smooth, muscled flesh. Her tongue moistened her lips. He was fucking perfection…for a mortal, she amended.

“I’m not here to hurt you, Sam,” she breathed, thick, honeyed voice a persuasive whisper.

How many times had she uttered those same words? Words that over two millennia had lost their meaning? She actually meant them this time. Surprise fluttered in the pit of her stomach. Ordinarily, the existence of another being was of no consequence to her. Tatum had a mission to complete. That was all Sam Murphy was to her—a mission. She needed to maintain her objective. Complete the aim, get in, get out. Words she’d lived and survived by for centuries. “But there was no mistaking the fact you’ve been accused of mass murder,” she said.

Rage filled his hazel eyes, darkening them. He stiffened and grabbed her wrists in a forceful grip. Hauling her against him, her arms were trapped between her body and his chest. “Lies,” he hissed between clenched teeth. “All of it, lies!”

Inner strength, honor, vengeance, along with an outpouring of human lust rose and swelled deep within his chest. Every emotion crashed through him and cascaded into her. Sam Murphy spoke the truth. He was an innocent man charged with unspeakable horrors. She kind of felt sorry for him. Kind of. Innocent or damned made no difference to her and what the Sun Council deemed. In the end, Captain Murphy would comply. No one refused the Council’s demands.

#SEXYSNIPPETS~6

Sexy Snippets are seven sentences, taken from a work in progress, or published book, brought to you every Sunday, the brainchild of the lovely Doris O'Connor.

This week's snippet comes from a partial I've been holding onto trying to figure out what to do with. It's a straight up paranormal with very little medical to it and I'm still trying to work out the details of what it is. The only thing I do know is that if I can relay onto the page what's in my head, this is going to be one spectacular book! This is edited to shorten to try and fit the parameters. Enjoy!

“Agent Tatum Wilder, Captain Murphy,” she said, her voice infused with just a hint of a seductive purr. She bent in a mock bow. “At your service.”

“I’m no longer enlisted, so take your sexy vamp ass over the hills and back through the woods and find yourself another blood bag,” he said drawing the axe from his shoulder and holding the handle in preparation to strike.

“A vamp?” Tatum said and laughter erupted.

Uncertainty filled his gaze and the tip of the sharpened blade lowered a bit toward the ground. “Well, aren’t you?”

In a swift move of velocity and grace, Tatum zipped behind Captain Murphy and disarmed him, tossing the axe in the center of the back door to the house.

“Relax, Rockstar. I’m not going to eat you,” she said in a husky tone, enjoying the feel and scent of the human male against her. “I’m not a vampire. If I were, you’d be drained already,” she said, voice filled with unspoken promise.

~MAN CANDY FRIDAY~

Hmmm.... Last Friday's Man Candy was pretty spectacular. What to dazzle you with to launch you into your weekend? I came up with this because of a little girl who was naughty. No... Not what you're all thinking you dirty birds!!! My niece! She's 3 years old and the most adorable little Diva. My sister bought an elf on the shelf to try and keep the little mischievous Diva in line with stories of Santa and the North Pole and teaching her all about Santa's naughty list. Some days have been great while others... er... not so much. Little Miss Diva jumps out of bed every morning now looking for the elf, Jamie to see if she has a prize for her. Unfortunately, yesterday wasn't one of Miss Diva's better days and I received this from my sister:

😂 😂😂😂😂 Gotta love my sister! She is such a genius! I can't wait to find out what Miss Diva's reaction was. LOL. So now you understand my inspiration for this week's Man Candy! Weird that a naughty (but oh so lovable) 3 year old's naughty antics could inspire her auntie in such a strange way. Ha Ha!  Enjoy!

Rock the weekend, Ya'll!

~THURSDAY FUNNY~LAUGHTER IS INFECTIOUS~

So, the other day I'm sitting in the overstuffed chair in the living room, laptop on my lap and my husband is on the couch scrolling through whatever on his phone and he starts laughing. Not just any laugh, but that gut hurting, tears in your eyes, belly laughs. It made me smile then the more he laughed, I started laughing, too because, well, laughter is infectious. I finally asked, "What in the world are you laughing at?" He could hardly talk, so he just handed me his phone and restarted the video.

OMG! I hadn't laughed so hard since... well, since my baby sister and I were on FaceTime a few days ago, but that's a whole other story. 😉  I'll admit it, this video is hilarious, but at the expense of someone's face. But the reality was it was all staged, so no worries there. And, well, my humor is such that I know I'm probably going to Hell 🔥  someday; but until then, I'll leave you with this funny, funny laugh your ass off video! Pay close attention to the announcer's commentary. That is the real gem that gets ya going!

You're welcome! Have an awesome day!

This is edited to help keep within parameters... Enjoy!

Her phone buzzed once more. After washing and drying her hands, she retrieved the device from her pocket. “Will you call housekeeping, Bri? I’m starving and I’ve had to pee for like eons. All the sharps are taken care of.”

“Sure thing, Kate. Have a good one,” he said.

She looked down at her cell in her palm, curious as to who had been blowing up her phone for the last couple of hours. Excitement swelled, but she dared not hope.

7:32 PM Sexy Neighbor: I’ve got to know…

7:33 PM Sexy Neighbor: What are you wearing?

Kate laughed. She hadn’t heard from Mr. OCD since he’d snuck out of her bed in the wee hours of the morning a few days ago. Now, as she scanned the texts on her phone, her heart ratcheted up several notches as his words brought back panty-melting memories.

7:40 PM Sexy Neighbor: I keep thinking about how fucking sexy you looked in your underwear. Next time I want to remove those sexy panties with my teeth.

8:00 PM Sexy Neighbor: Where are you? I just knocked on your door and no answer. 😁

An emoji? A smile curved her lips. Somehow, Kate hadn’t thought him the emoji type. She read on.

8:30 PM Sexy Neighbor: Why aren’t you answering? Did I do something to upset you?
9:30 PM Sexy Neighbor: What if it wasn’t me but you’re stuck or hurt somewhere? If you are alive and well, at least give me the courtesy of letting me know…pissed or not!!

Kate lifted a brow. He sounded a bit upset. Whether it was at her supposed demise or the fact that she hadn’t returned any of his text messages…she couldn’t be sure. To be fair, he was the one who’d left without so much as a note or kiss goodbye. And, it had taken him three days to make contact with her.

10:03 PM Kate: Yes, I’m alive. I’m in the ER.

10:04 PM Sexy Neighbor: Oh My God! I’ll be right there! What happened? Are you ok? Can you talk?

Kate frowned. He knew she worked here. Why was he freaking out? Then she remembered his parents and how they’d died. Empathy welled deep within her.

10:05 PM Kate: Slow down, there, Cowboy. I work here. Remember? I’m not hurt. No need to call in the Calvary for a rescue.

Without waiting for a reply, Kate yanked on the handle of the bathroom only to find it locked. “Damn,” she muttered. “Why is someone always in here when I have to pee? All I hear is nurses complaining about how we never have time to pee!” she said to the empty break room, hopping from foot to foot. If she didn’t relieve the pressure soon...

10:07 PM Sexy Neighbor: ?

A question mark? What was that supposed to mean? Curious, she replied.

10:10 PM Kate: What’s the question?

10:10 PM Sexy Neighbor: It’s several actually. First, you never answered my original question. Second, when do you get off?

Puzzled, Kate scrolled up to see what his original question had been. I’ve got to know… What are you wearing… She smiled. No reason to make this too easy for him.

10:11 PM Kate: Scrubs.

10:12 PM Sexy Neighbor: Cute, real cute, nurse. What’s under your scrubs? Maybe that dicey little red number I saw in your clean laundry basket on my way out the door the other morning? Or the hot pink panties with bright yellow bows? Your lingerie basket has been driving me crazy ever since I walked by it. I was half tempted to stuff a pair of your mouth watering panties in my suit jacket. Put a man out of his misery, would ya?

Kate stared, mouth open, half eaten spaghetti falling onto her plate. He’d rummaged through her clean laundry basket she’d had on the lounge chair next to her bed? She was half fascinated, half creeped out. He’d wanted to snatch a pair of her underwear? Laughing out loud, a noodle tried to go down the wrong pipe and she began to cough. She gulped down a few swigs of water and cleared her throat. Under control once more, she responded.

10:15 PM Kate: That, my dear sir, would make you the Panty Snatching Neighbor. Much much worse than a nosey neighbor with binoculars. Don’t ya think?
