#MIDWEEKTEASE~19~TRICK OR TREATS LITTLE MAN, HERE I COME...

Happy Midweek to you! Thank you for stopping by Midweek Tease where we all share a little bit of a work in progress, upcoming release, or published work. As always, a special shout out to Angelica Dawson for putting together this weekly blog hop! This week's tease comes from my paranormal wip that has an upcoming deadline of June first for a late summer/early fall release in the Cimmerian Shades PNR/UFR boxed set. I'm super excited about this one because it's my first strictly paranormal book. And check out this awesome cover by EmCat Designs! Okay, so this book had a different title and I changed it. You've met the lead character, Agent Tatum Wilder, now meet one of her colleagues...

Agent Scarlet Reed watched as the balding overweight man scurried across the street. In his haste, he stumbled, not once, but twice. Sweat and fear emanated from him in waves.

Humans, a sad pathetic race. Easy prey for all the supernatural beings in the grand universe. Always ready to give up their greedy little secrets for sex, wealth, or power which placed them in need of the Nubian Council’s constant protection and rescue. She sometimes wondered why the Goddess cared so much, but if she hadn’t, the Phoenix would never have come into being. Little did the human race know how important the Phoenix were. The elite force kept the delicate balance that currently existed between all species.

Some believed humans the weakest link in the chain and would take great pride and a perverse joy in driving them to extinction. If it weren’t for the Nubian Council’s constant vigilance in saving their asses by using agents such as her, humans would’ve been destroyed hundreds of years ago causing a chain reaction most supernatural beings shudder to think about. Take vampires for example. They relied on human blood for survival. No humans. No blood. Simple as that.

When Scarlet had been a mere mortal, she’d been a virgin sacrifice to the Sun God, Ra. She’d been excited and eager to be called into the Goddess’ service and leave her miserable human existence behind. Now, it was her job to make sure humans weren’t preyed upon. She was still young enough to take a certain pride in that.

Scarlet glanced down from her five story perch of the roof of the abandoned building just as her target entered a titty bar decorated in the spirit of the upcoming Halloween holiday. The blatant display of “witches” with exaggerated cleavage and g-strings almost comical. She smiled.

Straightening, the night wrapped its velvety shroud around her. She cocked her head, listening to sounds of music and the randy shouts of lustful men with her keen hearing. At 1200 years of age, she was one of the youngest Phoenix. Phoenix were reborn every century on the anniversary of their human death when the Akthuá began—a painful transition where their powers and heightened senses were weakened right before they were consumed by fire and turned to ash.

She grimaced, her most recent agonizing experience with the Akthuá still fresh in her memory. The process started relatively easy enough with the loss of balance. Her beautiful burnished red hair with its golden highlights had turned dull and fell out in tufts. She lost the ability to see using her night vision. Her core body temperature rose until the first flames licked her flesh and then she’d been devoured in blessed incineration, screaming for the mercy of Sekhmet, the Goddess of War begging to die and end a misery seemingly with no conclusion.

From the pile of the ash, a Phoenix was rejuvenated and blessed with a new power. Some can foretell the future. Others could read minds. There were even those Phoenix that manipulated time and space to teleport themselves, but only the very old gain that ability. Their powers of persuasion through seduction and sex were beyond compare. And Vamps thought they cornered the market in sensuality. Scarlet snickered. As if…

Each Akthuá a Phoenix endured was more painful than the last. Shrieks of agony from those even much older than herself could be heard from the four corners of the earth, to the heavens above, and straight down to the fiery depths of hell. Which was why during Akthuá a Phoenix would check into the Temple of Karnak—a sort of hospital for the supernatural.

The healers of Karnak could do little to ease the extreme torment, but they provided protection in a Phoenix’s vulnerable state. It was the only time a Phoenix could be killed.

Protection against Him.

A frisson of fear twisted and snaked around her spine, coiling tight. She shivered. Scarlet dismissed her morbid thoughts before they became rooted in her brain. Strange, she hadn’t thought of the Dark Pharaoh in a very long time… Maybe her brain had fried a bit too much after this last Akthuá. Not that she felt any lingering effects of being turned into a pile of ash. Her body was now restored and fresh. The new power of levitating objects provided a new thrill, but an unfounded apathy had taken hold. Her very existence bored her when she wasn’t on assignment. Now she had a bit more understanding of what her fellow Phoenix grumbled about upon occasion.

How the sweet fuck was she supposed to deal with that shit? When she returned to the house, which she shared with the rest of the Phoenix agents, she’d ask Magda a few questions. At over six thousand years old, she was the oldest living Phoenix in existence and their leader.

Scarlet slipped off her five inch stilettos and leapt from roof and landed on the sidewalk five stories below with the ease and grace of a feline. No sense in ruining her favorite Jimmy Choos by being careless. Replacing her cherished heels onto her feet, she adjusted the black leather mini skirt and golden sequined tank top she wore, then took the same path as her target across the deserted street. He was one of seven needed. Their combined DNA was supposedly the key to a cure of some super virus against humans. She’d wished she’d paid more attention at the briefing, but like a kid in a candy store after her rebirth, she’d been restless and had wanted to play with her new power.

Scarlet stopped and inhaled deeply. Judging by the pheromones of the man of interest to a certain vampire faction, he’d be putty in her hands. Her lips curved as exhilaration rushed through her veins replacing her earlier apathy. Thank the Goddess.
She lived for this shit.

Trick or treats little man, here I come…

And there you have it... I hope you enjoyed meeting Agent Scarlet. Initially, I'd written a scene where she'd died, but my sister, Elizabeth, begged me to keep her alive because she liked her so much. So I did. Don't forget to stop by and check out the rest of today's teases!

#SEXYSNIPPETS~10~

Welcome to another #SexySnippets where we all share about seven sentences from a current wip or published book. Thanks to Doris O'Connor for putting this blog hop together each week. Today I will share a few sentences from my upcoming release, Chicks Dig Scars which is one of the stories included in the Prowlers & Growlers Boxed Set. Hmmm... Let me think. Last time we visited Rachel and Devon they were arguing something fierce, but now it is time to kiss and make up. As always, your comments are welcome and encouraged.

Devon’s rough hands skimmed under her T-shirt as if he craved closer contact, kneading her heated flesh. He groaned, his palms sliding up her back and removing the clip that held her hair in place where he tangled his fingers in the loose tendrils.

He pulled back and stared down at her. The deep blue of his eyes so dark, they seemed almost black. “There you are,” he whispered. “I feel like I’m meeting the real Rachel O’Dea for the first time. Not the nurse. Not the friend or caregiver, but the woman underneath it all. Flushed by my touch and so damn beautiful.”

MIDWEEK TEASE~10~

Welcome to another Hump Day! Can you believe it's February already? #MidWeekTease is hosted by the lovely Angelica Dawson and allows us to share a bit of a work in progress or published work. And since I'm over the moon on contracting not one, but two books with NNP at the end of last week, 🍾🍾 I thought I'd share a scene from The Reborn, my Phoenix work in progress that will be apart of the Cimmerian Shades PNR & UFR boxed set. It did have a different name, but my daughter convinced me to change the title. LOL. I'm so happy this book now has a happy home. :) The release date should be sometime late summer or early fall, 2017!

Here's a bit of what I think my hero looks like... Now for your tease. This is unedited...

*****

Sam stared at the beautiful creature before him; anger and lust a heady combination. He struggled to keep balance. No way in hell did he need this…this whatever the fuck she was to remind him of the events that had led to his ostracism from society. The details of which were none of her fucking business. The accusations of the U.S. government that had ended in a court marshal and dishonorable discharge from the Navy he’d given his entire life to had crushed him. The disappointment and accusation in his father’s gaze the last time he’d seen his old man rose in Sam’s memory.

Sam shook his head to clear it of the ugliness of that day. No matter how hard he’d tried to explain that his classified lab research had been stolen, used to murder thousands of innocent people in the South Pacific. The only thing that had saved him from being thrown in the brink was the lack of concrete evidence to prove Sam was the one at fault.

But he knew. Knew the truth of what had happened.

His gaze shifted to the creature before him. She rubbed her wrists, confusion in her eyes. Eyes the color of a polished Tiger’s Eye—alternating bands of rich yellow and golden brown. Ghastly purplish marks marred her creamy skin from where he’d grabbed her. Guilt tore through his gut along with an undercurrent of surprise. He hadn’t expected this being to be vulnerable. She’d exuded nothing but confidence and oozed seductive power since she’d shown up here unannounced. Something deep inside him softened.

“I’m sorry.” He scraped a hand through his damp hair. “I didn’t mean to hurt you.” His voice sounded rusty from disuse, even to his own ears. Evidence of just how alone he’d been for so long. “Agent…whatever your name is. Your Council’s problems aren’t my concern. So leave,” he ground out. “Now.”

“Wilder,” she said and smiled. Confident mask in place once more. “Agent Tatum Wilder, Captain Murphy.”

A simple curve of her lips and Sam’s knees nearly buckled. A warmth and sunny brilliance shone through. Wilder… The name suited her, he thought. Sam remembered the scent of her as she’d stood so near, touching him. She smelled of sunshine, pure, natural radiant sunshine. Sam did a double take. What the hell did sunshine even smell like? He wasn’t making any sense. Damn succubus or whatever the fuck she was must have scrambled his brains a bit when she’d touched him.

He stiffened his spine and held his footing in a weak attempt to keep his knees from buckling. Never in his life had he witnessed anything so beautiful. She reached out and caressed his bearded cheek with tentative fingers. Dimly, he wondered how’d she’d gotten so close to him. Hadn’t he just shoved her across the room? An undercurrent of electricity pulsed through her fingertips.

“This isn’t exactly how this was supposed to play out. I had envisioned a night of hot, steamy sex, wrought with nothing but pleasure,” she said. Regret colored her words. “But since my powers of seduction aren’t working on you,” she dropped her hand and mumbled something under her breath that sounded like “damn atchoo”. She turned and planted herself on his couch and flipped her long fiery hair over her shoulder. “Guess we will have to do this the old fashioned way,” she grumbled, clearly put out. “Will you at least listen carefully to what I have to say?”

She’d lost him at hot, steamy sex. Mental pictures planted themselves into his brain. Tatum with those long, lithe legs wrapped around his waist as he drove his cock into her wet, slick pussy. Those strangely alluring eyes dilated with desire. The silken strands of her fiery hair that seemed to shine with the rays of the sun’s brilliance spread across the couch. He could almost hear her soft whimpers of pleasure and taste the honeyed juice between her thighs.

Blood rushed to his groin and his cock stood at attention, begging him to tear off his jeans and start what she’d suggested. He’d lived secluded in the dark deserted mountains of the Sierra Nevada for far too long without any pussy. Sam shook his head to clear the erotic images. Creatures such as this were full of deception. She'd probably lied about her powers not working because something affected him unlike anything he’d ever experienced before. Couldn’t be the fact that his hand had been his only form of friendly for so long…

“You have ten minutes.” Careful to keep his distance from this alluring woman…creature he corrected, he walked over and sat on the edge of the coffee table opposite of her.

“Pity,” she said, her voice held regret. “Everything you just envisioned would have been more than satisfying…for both of us.”

He gasped. “How did—-”

“Oh, come now Sam,” she tsked. She stared pointedly at the bulge in his jeans before lifting her gaze to his once more. “The real question is how could I not? Your lust radiates off you in high frequency, my friend.” She waved a hand in peeved dismissal. “My time is ticking… in more ways than you can imagine and since you don’t want to play…” a small pout puckered her full, red lips.

“I’m not going to color the facts. You seem pretty well versed in the supernatural for a human. Most feign ignorance of the dangers that exist around them, which works for us. What you may not know is that everything has an order. Humans cling to their laws and government, but the truth is that peace and balance between all species supernatural and human is kept by an ancient nation and has since the beginning of creation. Each being is represented on the council by one of its own, but ultimately, all decisions are made by Rà, God of the Sun. I’m a Phoenix. We Agents are Rà’s… umm…enforcers if you will. Step out of line and we, put you back in your place.”

Sam sat still, trying to absorb what Tatum had said. An internal battled waged as he struggled to tamp down his physical desire for her. “Rà? As in Rà from Egyptian religion?”

“One and the same,” she said.

“So, Rà isn’t a mythical Egyptian god?” He frowned. “I don’t understand,” Sam said, scratching his bearded chin. “What does your Rà want with me? Can’t he just snap his fingers and make everything right?”

Tatum’s soft laughter glided across his skin, like a silken caress. He shivered, despite the heat from the hearth.  Sam's cock strained against his jeans demanding contact with her. A need to have her mouth wrapped around his hard length, hell he’d even take a hand job from this being… welled up deep within his gut. He gulped and swallowed hard.

Down, Murphy. Down. She can fucking read your mind, you idiot.

MIDWEEK TEASE~8~

Good morning and happy Hump Day!! It's time for your weekly tease, the brain child of Angelica Dawson. A special thanks to Angelica for hosting us each week. This week's tease comes from my yet untitled wip.  My Phoenix just found out her sexual powers of persuasion aren't working on her new assignment and now we are in my exiled Navy doctor's point of view...this is unedited so please be kind. :)

~MIDWEEK TEASE~5~

Good morning and happy Hump Day!! It's time for your weekly tease, the brain child of Angelica Dawson. This week's tease comes from a wip I gave you a snippet from on Sunday's #SexySnippets and picks up where I'd left off Sunday. My exiled Navy Captain has just encountered a supernatural being, my version of a supernatural CIA agent in the isolated snowy mountains of the Sierra Nevada and he's trying to figure out what he's dealing with and why she's come to see him. I love this story. I hope to get it finished by the middle of next summer. Enjoy!

“Relax, Rockstar. I’m not going to eat you,” she said in a husky tone, enjoying the feel and scent of the human male against her. “And, for your information, I’m not a vampire. If I were, you’d be drained already,” she said, voice filled with unspoken promise. “They have the self control of a mosquito. Why don’t we go inside your cozy little cabin, sit by the fire, and… talk.” With reluctance, she released him and headed toward the porch, hips sashaying with anticipation. Her body hummed with renewed vigor for the sex to come.

The weight of his angry stare bore into her backside as she walked up the steps to the front door. Anticipation and impatience rumbled through her system. With a flick of a wrist, she grasped the axe handle and dislodged the blade from the door. “Come along, Sam. I’m hot, needy, and want your stiff cock inside me. How about we get to the good stuff first, explanations later? Whaddya say?”

“Must be a bloody Succubus,” he grumbled following her inside. He closed the door against the blackened frosty night.

“Wrong again,” Tatum declared, surveying the neat, but sparsely furnished room. “For a human, you certainly seem to know a lot about supernatural beings, except the one you’re dealing with at the moment. But then again, we’ve managed to keep our lore mostly to ourselves. Better that way. Besides, humans are obsessed with vampires and werewolves,” she said with disdain. “They’re so five minutes ago.”

The embers of a fire still burned within an ancient large cobblestoned fireplace that encompassed one wall of the sparse living quarters. A beaten up leather couch sat in the middle of the room facing the hearth. There was another door that led to what she guessed was the kitchen and a spiral staircase heading to the second floor in the opposite corner of the room. Other than a scarred up coffee table and a matching end table with another lantern lit upon the scratched surface, the room was void of any real personality. No photos. No personal mementos. Reminded her of a monk’s cell of old. It was as if the good Captain was still punishing himself. Humans… always glorifying in self-misery.

Like you once had? She shook her head to clear it of senseless thoughts almost forgotten. Hell, she hadn’t had those kinds of memories in over a millennia.

“Then what the fuck are you?” Sam said hands fisted on his hips. “More importantly, what the fuck do you want?”

The anger and distrust in his voice brought Tatum back to the present. Edgy and full of a need she hadn’t experienced in probably eight centuries, she amped up the flow of power that hummed just beneath the surface of her skin. She didn’t have time for this shit. Time to get the show on the road as humans of old used to say.

“I told you who I was,” she said, voice saturated with a femme fatale’s special brand of honey-dipped persuasion. “I’m Agent Tatum Wilder.” Power surged, her heart raced, her core body temperature rose involuntarily as she struggled to maintain breaths controlled and even. Attempting a seduction so near her impending Akthuá was a tricky thing. A younger, less experienced Phoenix couldn’t maintain the control needed, but not Tatum. “I’m here for you, Sam. The Sun Counsel needs your help and in return, you will have your reputation restored and be able to come out of exile.”

As she spoke, she closed the distance between them. One by one, she unbuttoned his flannel shirt, her tawny, golden gaze fixated on his hazel eyes. The intensity of her persuasion rose with each word she spoke. Flannel parted, she slid the damp fabric from his broad shoulders. His biceps flexed as her fingertips lightly grazed the smooth, muscled flesh. Her tongue moistened her lips. He was fucking perfection…for a mortal, she amended.

“I’m not here to hurt you, Sam,” she breathed, thick, honeyed voice a persuasive whisper.

How many times had she uttered those same words? Words that over two millennia had lost their meaning? She actually meant them this time. Surprise fluttered in the pit of her stomach. Ordinarily, the existence of another being was of no consequence to her. Tatum had a mission to complete. That was all Sam Murphy was to her—a mission. She needed to maintain her objective. Complete the aim, get in, get out. Words she’d lived and survived by for centuries. “But there was no mistaking the fact you’ve been accused of mass murder,” she said.

Rage filled his hazel eyes, darkening them. He stiffened and grabbed her wrists in a forceful grip. Hauling her against him, her arms were trapped between her body and his chest. “Lies,” he hissed between clenched teeth. “All of it, lies!”

Inner strength, honor, vengeance, along with an outpouring of human lust rose and swelled deep within his chest. Every emotion crashed through him and cascaded into her. Sam Murphy spoke the truth. He was an innocent man charged with unspeakable horrors. She kind of felt sorry for him. Kind of. Innocent or damned made no difference to her and what the Sun Council deemed. In the end, Captain Murphy would comply. No one refused the Council’s demands.
