~MIDWEEK TEASE~24~GOD'S ALLEGED GIFT TO CARDIOVASCULAR SURGERY....

Welcome, welcome! Come on in and have a seat! We have some great teases to perk up your #HumpDay! Been working on edits for the re-release of The Doctor's Deception. It has a brand new cover and new content, so I thought I'd share with you a tease from that book.

Faith Daniels stared at Cheryl’s closed fist and the two short plastic straws it contained. Trepidation rippled up her spine. I hate this. Her gaze flew to Jolene, who chewed her lower lip. The two of them were the last nurses in the lounge left to choose. “Go ahead, Jo. Pick one.”

Jolene’s hand trembled as she reached out to grab a straw before she snatched her hand back. “I can’t, Faith. You go.”

“Well, somebody better draw. Nurses’ report ended five minutes ago, and I know the night shift is probably more than ready to go home,” Cheryl, the day charge nurse, urged.

“Oh, what the hell. I’ll go.” Faith inhaled a deep breath and grasped the smooth plastic. Not again. Please, God. Not again.

She pulled and out slipped the one-inch stump she’d been dreading. Cheryl opened her palm to reveal the single straw left that was about an inch and a half longer than the one Faith held. Her heart skipped a beat. Her silent prayer had fallen on deaf ears—-again. A collective sigh of relief escaped the team of six nurses that were on shift today. They collected their stethoscopes and made their escape from the lounge.

“Thank God!” Jolene said dramatically, wiping her hands on her hot pink scrub pants. “I couldn’t bear the thought of putting up with him today.” She gave Faith an apologetic smile. “Sorry, Faith, but better you than me.” Jolene picked her stethoscope up off the table and left for shift report like her hind end was on fire.

“Damn. How do I always get the short straw, Cheryl?” Faith’s gaze pinned the only nurse still left in the room. “What have I done to deserve this?”

“It’s called Karma, babe. You just don’t have any.” Cheryl chuckled. “Cheer up. At least he’ll be in surgery for a while and won’t be able to start in on his regular old bullshit right away.” She patted Faith on the back and followed the others.

Faith turned to her open locker and grasped her stethoscope. She draped it around her neck, then slammed the door shut with enough force that it bounced back open. She was going to have to deal with him for the fourth shift in a row. The thought depressed her.

Him.

Dr. Stone Lassiter.

God’s alleged gift to cardiovascular surgery.

At least in his own over-inflated opinion. A derisive snort escaped her and she closed her locker a bit more gently this time. No sense in ruining hospital property she thought and sighed heavily. Since he’d come to Deerborne County General last year, she’d made it a habit to avoid him as much as possible. But, when forced to deal with his anger when he was on a roll, she fired right back with an over-exaggerated sweetness guaranteed to get on his nerves. Her behavior was childish, but she couldn’t seem to help herself. Wasn’t there an old saying about honey versus lemons? Obviously, Doctor Granite-head hadn’t heard of it.

That's all I have for now! Below is my blurb that is a work in progress. Don't forget to check out the other teases today by clicking on the names listed below! Enjoy the rest of your Hump Day!

Blurb:

Heart Surgeon Stone Lassiter has successfully transplanted beating hearts, but it’s his own that is causing him the most agony. With a deathbed promise to his fiancรฉe, he's driven to open a transplant center in her hometown, and arrives at Deerborne County General Hospital. Single minded in his focus, he inadvertently alienates the nursing staff he needs to make his dream a success. He sets his stethoscope on intensive care nurse, Faith Daniels, to improve his image.

Nurse of the Year, Faith Daniels has passed every nursing exam, but when faced with the task of the MCAT, she has severe test anxiety. Burned by her ex-husband, who used her while she put him through law school, she has become focused on passing that darn exam, and achieving her own dream to become a doctor in her own right. Will the white lie Stone tells Faith jeopardize the love they find?

MIDWEEK TEASE~22~LIVE! DAMN IT, LIVE!!

Happy Hump Day! As you are reading this, I'm on my way to New Orleans to enjoy some great music at Jazz Fest this weekend for my wedding anniversary. I'll be checking in and out throughout the day.

Super Excited about my current release, Chicks Dig Scars from the Prowlers & Growlers Paranormal Boxed Set which released yesterday. So, naturally, my tease is from this book's opening chapter. A special thank you to Angelica Dawson who puts this weekly blog hop together so we can all share our work with you guys!

Live! Damn it, Live!

Warm tears streamed down Rachel O’Dea’s face. She pumped on Seamus Jameson’s chest and tried to swallow past the lump of pain and helplessness that formed in her throat. She couldn’t even verbally count each concise, rapid chest compression out loud to the code team anymore. It was all she could do to maintain her composure and continue to assist.

The shrill alarms still buzzed loudly in her ears. Rachel’s gaze shot to the bedside heart monitor displaying his oxygen level, blood pressure, and heartbeat. All read zero.

No sign of life! Come on Seamus. Come on. I need something to work with here. Give me a signal. Beat, dammit!

“Let go, Rachel girl. Let go.”

Seamus’ Irish lilt gently washed over her and she faltered. She dared a glance at his grey face, void of his usual vitality. A sob wrenched from her parted lips. No! She refused to accept what her eyes told her. Rachel moved her gaze from Seamus’ body to the overhead monitor. Green, flat lines seemed to mock her from the flashing lights on the display. She restarted chest compressions with renewed vigor. “Come back, damn you,” she said in a pain-filled voice.

“Rachel.”

She ignored the compassion in her best friend and fellow nurse Laura Parker’s voice. That tone of finality fueled her efforts and she continued. Seamus couldn’t be dead. He’d only been sixty-five. Rachel loved him as much as her own father. He’d been a dear friend and confidant. Had she failed him when it mattered most?

“Rachel, stop. Dr. Morris called it,” Laura Parker said, gently laying a hand on her arm.

God, no. “Called it? No, we can’t stop now. What about another amp of epinephrine? Do we have any more sodium bicarb? Have his blood gases come back?”

It’s okay, Rachel girl.

Rachel hesitated, could almost hear his voice, the pet name he called her, like he’d already given up, but that was impossible. Only this morning they’d been talking about all the things he’d wanted to get finished before he’d pass into the great beyond as he’d referred to the afterlife. He’d missed his wife, Evie, and had told her many times over the last year that one day they’d be together again.

Laura’s lips moved, but it was Seamus’ voice Rachel heard.

Let me go, Rachel girl.

#SEXYSNIPPETS~21~A FEARLESS LAURA CROFT SHE WAS NOT!

Happy Sunday and welcome to this week's edition of #SexySnippets brought to us each week by the lovely Doris O'Connor. Special thanks to her for putting together this weekly hop!

This week's snippet is taken from Chicks Dig Scars, which releases on this TUESDAY in the Prowlers & Growlers Paranormal Boxed set!! I'm so excited for this story to hit the shelves!

Fear slammed into her chest and she spun toward the sound, umbrella raised, ready to strike.

“Who’s there?” she squeaked. Shit! Was that her? Pathetic. “I’m warning you,” she said, voice a bit stronger. “I’ve already called 911 and the police are on the way.”

Silence.

Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God.

The litany filled her mind as she tried not to freak the fuck out. On shaky legs, she inched toward where she’d thought the sound had come from, her makeshift sword trembling between damp palms. Her bravado faltered. A fearless Laura Croft she was not.

That's all I have for now! You can grab your copy of Chicks Dig Scars along with 20 other great brand new stories at the link listed after the blurb. The .99 cent preorder sale price ends soon because the set goes live on Tuesday. Don't forget to hop on over to the next Snippet. Author links are listed below. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

#MIDWEEK TEASE~21~WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE?

Happy Wednesday! I can't believe it is already the middle of the week already and time for those teases. Each week Angelica Dawson puts together this bloghop so we can all share something from a current work in progress or published work. This week, I'm sharing from Chicks Dig Scars which is part of the Prowlers & Growlers Paranormal Boxed set which releases next week on 4/25/2017!! I'm so excited for this story! In this week's tease, Devon's dead father is trying to get his attention. I'm sure I shared a scene not too far back about Rachel getting attacked on #SexySnippets. The link is here: http://kathleengrieve.blogspot.com/2017/04/sexysnippets19.html

Devon stared over the downtown Phoenix skyline through the large bay window of his living room. The multi-colored hews of the desert sunset a gorgeous site to behold, but he saw none of it. It was time, he realized. His gaze moved to the simple platinum wedding band that had been a part of him for five long years. Carefully, he removed the ring and placed it into the front pocket of his jeans. Rachel had renewed his spirit, giving him something to look forward to each day.

Hell, he’d found himself wishing these last couple of weeks that she had become pregnant from that whole condom debacle their first night together so he could make her stay with him. How fucked up was that?

Turning away from the window he began to pace. Would Rachel leave him once she learned the truth about Shannon’s death? Coward that he was, he’d only shared with Rachel that his wife had died with very little detail. With each passing day, guilt weighed heavily on him.

It was a lie. A lie of omission, true, but still a lie and it became harder to live with himself knowing that he kept the details from Rachel. She was so free and easy with her affection. He saw the love she had for him shining in her amazing green eyes. He should be standing tall and proud, but instead the deceit tore him apart.

In the living room around him, the lamps turned on one by one. He frowned looking on as one by one they brightened all around him.

“What the hell?” Devon asked, puzzled.

The entire room seemed to buzz with electricity. The hair on Devon’s arms stood on end and a buzzing sensation tingled the back of his neck. His flat screen television turned on of its own volition and began changing channels stopping randomly. Charge-filled undercurrents buzzed all around him, through him bouncing off the walls and zinging into him and he began to tremble.

He walked over, grabbed the remote and pushed the off button. But the screen remained on. “Fuck me,” Devon said slowly, scrubbing his palms over his face. “I must be going insane.”

The channels on the flat screen continued to skip and stop…skip and stop. Different voices speaking the same words over and over.

“…save…”

“…her…”

“Father’s house…”

“…bad man…”

Devon walked to the back of the set and pulled the plug, but the television remained on skipping channels. He didn’t understand what was happening. His cellphone began chiming with incoming texts messages. Yanking it from the back pocket of his jeans he gazed at the screen. Someone with no caller ID was blowing up his phone.

17:48 pm Unknown Contact: Holy living hell, son, are you dense?

17:49 pm Unknown Contact: It’s Rachel. Get over to my house now!

17:50 pm Unknown Contact: Why haven’t you left already?

17:51 pm Unknown Contact: Jesus Mary & Joseph! I thought I raised you to listen to your elders!

Devon stared down at his cell, mouth wide open. Senses returning, anger churned his gut. Someone was fucking with him. He went to recent messages and blocked the person, but the texts kept coming. “What the fuck is going on here?”

That's all I have for now... I'll be sharing more from these two soon as I gear up for release day. This boxed set is still available for .99cents for only a few more days! Don't forget to hop on over and check out the other teases today. Enjoy the rest of your day!

#SEXYSNIPPETS~20~

Good morning and happy Sunday! So much goodness being shared to you in today's bloghop brought to you each week by the lovely Doris O'Connor. Today, I'm going to share a snippet from my latest release, Sex Is The Best Medicine. Last Wednesday I shared an anxious moment from Grant's point of view so today I wanted to lighten things up a bit and they are out on a dinner date... Enjoy!

“No way in hell would you ever catch me jumping off anything,” he said emphatically.

Kate laughed. “Well, it isn’t for everyone,” she agreed.

He placed his hand on her knee just under the hem of her short black skirt. “There are other things I’d like to do with you,” he said, voice low and husky. He traced small circles on her inner thigh. “To you.”

She sucked in a sharp breath and her knees opened a bit wider, allowing him greater access. Her eyes darkened in challenge. “Oh?”

“We can stay for dessert, or.” His hand slid higher, fingering the edge of lace that barred him from what he really wanted to taste.

Their waiter walked by and Kate grabbed his arm, halting him. “Check, please.”

MIDWEEK TEASE~20~

Happy MidWeek to you! This weekly bloghop is made possible by the lovely Angelica Dawson and we get to share a scene of a work in progress or published work. This week, I thought I'd share a piece from Sex Is The Best Medicine which is available now :)  In this scene, Grant is trying to get up the courage to tell Kate about his agoraphobia. Enjoy!

This was a mistake, being alone with her in her apartment, the voice taunted. Grant stared at Kate, struggling with his own haunted thoughts. Today had been a good day. It had been the reason why he’d finally gathered up the courage to approach her.

It is a good day. Please, he begged the voice. Let me enjoy her company without complications. One evening, that’s all I ask. One normal evening with my new neighbor. Please. Please. Please.

He sat there stiffly on the overstuffed couch. Tension filled his shoulders, his arms, and his jaw. When she came over and sat beside him offering him the glass of wine, he gripped the goblet tightly between the palms of both hands. Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!

“Hey,” Kate said gently, placing her hand on his arm.

Immobilized, Grant sat there, unable to look her direction.

“Hey,” she repeated. “Look at me.”

Reluctantly, he met her eyes. The color appeared even darker in the early evening light that lingered through the large bay window that nearly took up an entire wall. He flexed his fingers around the glass in his hands. His composure was slipping and he was sure Kate knew it.

But how could he explain his erratic behavior to her without scaring her? Before he could get a handle on what to say, she broke the awkward silence between them.

“Grant,” she said softly. “We don’t have to do movie night. We don’t have to do anything that’s going to make you uncomfortable. In fact, I can make you a plate to take back to your place if you prefer.” She removed her hand from his arm.

“No!” he said, too quickly and just a touch too loudly. He winced. Grant inhaled deeply and turned on the couch to face her, setting his wine glass on the coffee table beside them.

“Please don’t kick me out, Kate.” His hands balled into fists on his lap, but he forced himself to continue. “There’s no place I’d rather be right now.”

#MIDWEEKTEASE~18~IT'S RELEASE DAY~HE HADN'T MEANT TO BE A COLD BASTARD...

Happy Release Day to Me! LOL Can you tell I'm excited? So on today's Midweek Tease, I'm going to share a scene from Sex Is The Best Medicine which is available now on Amazon ;) As always, a big THANKS to Angelica Dawson for putting together this weekly blog hop! In this tease, we get a glimpse into Grant's pain as he struggles with his inner demons.

Grant stared after the bold woman as she left his apartment. After her audacious attention at the window earlier, he hadn’t been surprised to find her in his apartment. What had surprised him was that she’d been the very same nurse from the emergency room two weeks ago. Idly, he wondered if he’d told her she’d haunted his every waking moment and given him more wet dreams in the last 14 days then he’d had as a teenager if she’d finally be rendered speechless. He swiped the baseball cap off with one hand and adjusted his jeans with the other. Christ almighty, the woman was like a wind eddy swirling around picking up speed until you were caught in the middle.

Slowly, he closed the door and bolted the latch. She hadn’t exactly seen him at his worst, he mused. When she’d first called his name in the waiting room and taken him back to triage he’d been awash in old memories of the fateful car crash that had changed his life, his parent’s last breaths as they’d been dying in front of him, the sirens. It was as if he’d been transported back in time he could hear the howl of the wind and rain, the smell of gasoline and oil and the shouts of the emergency workers as they extricated his small body. And the pain… his six-year old self hadn’t understood. He’d hurt so fucking bad…

The fear had all but taken over when through the haze Kate had called his name. He’d hadn’t meant to be a cold bastard snapping answers to her questions at her like he was a Neanderthal, but he’d been about to completely lose his shit. All he could think about was home. Home was safety. Home was security. Home was where the monsters and demons of his damaged mind couldn’t touch him.

Blood rushed between his ears and sweat broke out along his brow. Grant slid to the floor and covered his face with his hands. Breathe, you dumb fuck, breathe.

That's all I have for now! I hope you enjoyed my tease! Don't forget to check out all the other great teases today!
