ZOMBIE BLOG HOP!!

Morning!  I have a prize that I'm offering which I will tell you about at the end of this post.  I want to thank Author Jolie Du Pre for allowing me to participate! I can't wait to read all the great posts and get an idea of everyones view on Zombies!

I can't tell you all how excited I am to be here talking about Zombies!  Only my most favorite topic--like EVER!  My fascination started with ZombieLand and when The Walking Dead began on AMC, I was completely hooked!

As a medical professional, I have taken a serious look at how viruses have mutated and spread over the centuries.  Personally witnessing how the H1N1 (swine flu) killed patients in my ICU unit, I think it is completely plausible that a mutation could occur and have a Zombie-like effect on dead tissue, thus bringing dead corpses back to life.  Of course, this is just my own humble opinion.  But look at all the side affects vaccinations and medication have on the human body.

We only get one life on this earth.  I try to spend mine by helping others through my work as an intensive care nurse and by treating my own body as healthy as possible.  I am by no means a health nut, but I exercise.  And yes I do eat junk/fast food and drink the occasional beer or glass of wine in moderation.  After all, I do have to live. Right? LOL.

A lot of people I know have been getting involved in marathons and triathlons and such.  Those just haven't really appealed to me.  But what I happened to stumble upon recently was this: RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!! A Zombie infested 5k obstacle race! You can find the details here:  http://www.runforyourlives.com/   It is sort of like flag football.  You are given flags which signifies your "health" and the Zombies try to take your health away.  There are races scheduled all around the country.  I'm hoping to do the one in California in May, 2013 because the one here in Arizona where I live isn't until November, 2013 and I don't want to wait that long! LOL.

What's better than running from Zombies, an Apocalypse party, and camping?  I can't think of anything else I'd rather be doing.  So far, I have about 4 on my team.  Here are a couple of photos taken from the Run For Your Lives Website!

I'd love to hear what you think.  They say if you learn the basics for Zombie survival, you can survive any disaster to hit!  Are you prepared? Do you think you're ready for a Zombie Apocalypse?  Do you have food? Water? Medical supplies? Weapons? How will you keep in contact with others? CB radios?  I doubt even the very young generations even have the slightest idea what a CB radio is!  It is totally different than texting, that's for damn sure!

My kids just shake their heads and chalk my obsession up to my weirdness...But now they're all super hooked on The Walking Dead, too! Chips off the old block, tee hee...

Okay, now for the good part!  I am offering a $25 Amazon Gift Card as a prize! To be eligible, you need to leave a comment on how you plan to survive the Zombie Apocalypse along with a valid email address and click to follow my blog! Tomorrow, I will randomly draw a name out of a hat.

Can't wait to see what you all come up with! Now, I'm back to my Zombie Survival Training...Which you can follow my progress on Nike+ running app!  Now don't forget to check out the other authors participating in today's Zombie Blog Hop here: http://www.preciousmonsters.com/

We live in a tiny town, so a zombie apocalypse would leave us with only a few zombies to deal with at first. My husband had an elaborate zombie survival plan drawn up for the apartment building we used to live in. First, we'd take an axe to the wooden staircase so we'd be isolated on the second floor. Then we'd fill our bathtub just in case we lost running water. Then we'd make wooden stakes out of the decimated staircase so we could use them to stab zombies through the eye.

Cool! You'd definitely be isolated and you'd be able to take out Zombies without much noise to be had. LOL

Everything I learned about Zombies was from the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer and they were virtually indestructible and very scary. To survive the Zombie apocalypse I'd brush up on swinging an ax to do some major decapitating. Decapitation would stop them right?

I certainly hope so, Nana! At least that is what most of our literature and movies tell us! LOL

A zombie survival run is what motivated me to try and get fit :) And you're right; if you prepare for a zombie apocalypse you're good with whatever else nature can throw at you :)

Here in Queensland (Australia) we've already had a dry run. When the QLD Emergency State Services moved to Twitter and Facebook for updates a couple of years back, they tested the system with a zombie apocalypse drill. This was promoted for weeks in advance and the police services and transport and rail got involved too. the outbreak started off small, in an outer suburb, but within hours tweets were advising citizens stay indoors, and if caught out, you could not longer get a train home as they had been overrun with zombies. It was a lot of fun, and we learned what emergency supplies we would need, batteries, torch, wireless radio, food rations, water, axe or scythe, bandages, etc.
Although, personally, I think decapitation is too risky, you gotta get close. Best to stock up on dynamite sticks and blow the suckers up.

Super cool to meet another "The Walking Dead" fan!! I completely agree about mutations. Think about Mad Cow disease. Isn't it possible that a rage virus could happen to humans and spread so rapidly that we end up with a zombie apocalypse? I am so, so, so happy I read your blog post today! I try to take really good care of myself, and I run a 5K, five days a week. Thanks to you, you've introduced me to "Run for Your Lives," and I intend to sign-up for the one in Byron, IL. (This Chicago gal has no idea where the hell Byron, IL is, but I have a car, and I can find it.) I'll have to blog about this run at my next Zombie Friday! How do I plan to survive the zombie apocalypse? A zombie survival kit is great, but even that will only go so far if you can't replenish your supplies. Try to have enough for at least a month. However, the best tool you have is your brain. Use it. Don't let the zombies get to it. Pay attention to what's happening out there BEFORE the zombie apocalypse hits. I doubt that it will happen all over the world at the same time. If there's some massive virus that has spread in a certain area, you better pay attention. joliedupre@yahoo.com (Congratulations on your bestsellers! I followed your blog by entering my email address.)

I have my zombie survival kit in the attic. Lots of guns and ammunition, wood for arrows and spears if needed, and several axes. A stash of food and water, as well as clothes blankets and other useful items. My attic is large and difficult to get to, a great place to take them out and keep them out.
Just kidding, I don't have any thing -- but I do have a weak heart, so whatever happens, I'll be one of the first to die! I've already told family -- don't let me turn! :)

The first thing, I would have a hidden escape room in my house. A room that no one could get into but me, but I could get out of. If I was outside, I would dress up like a zombie and act like one so I wouldn't draw attention to myself. I would also watch Zombieland to remember all the rules they had on there. I follow the blog on GFC as Amy S.

Love the post and I really want to participate in Run For Your Lives! I live in Arizona too. I think I'll participate this November. Give me more time to train and have a blast without running out of the breath LOL

How I'd survive the zombie apocalypse... I'll make sure I have plenty of blunt objects. Axes, iron rod with sharp at the ending, any sharp object. A sword like Michonne from The Walking Dead since it is quieter than guns. Less noise = less attention from zombies. :D Oh, there's even a survivor kits at Sam's Club that have a month long food supply something like that. Gotta make sure I have plenty water too. Board up the windows and remained quiet inside the house. Possibly make a hole through the roof in case the zombies finally found their way inside so I'll be safe on the roof. :) Probably more challenge for me since I won't be able to hear them. (I'm deaf). ;D

Hi Kathleen!

Great question! My plan has always been to head north to where it's colder. Sure it may be hard to live in desolate climates, but I'd rather be alive then dead - or worse, a Zombie!

I also loved your introspective look at how viruses have mutated over the years in order to remain relevant in a world full of vaccines and anti-viral medications. It makes for some scary thoughts when you really do think about it!

Charmaine, here in the US at hospitals--especially ones that handle trauma, we prepare for external disasters (meaning a disaster to hit outside the hospital). We learn how to properly triage incoming patients and it is a "call to arms" so to speak. Staff come in whether we are on duty or not. It is good practice!

Jolie! Yeah! You're gonna do the Run! I had to look up where my run was going to be, too. It totally looks freaking awesome! I will look to see what date Byron will have its run and cheer you on!

Awww...Yolanda, you have HEART! The heart of a survivor! Have faith!

Amy~Yes! The rules in Zombieland make complete sense...I have them memorized! LOL

Lisa~better make sure there's nothing funky going on at the base! LOL

Tami! Sounds like a solid plan! Tee Hee...

Zack, yes the Run in Arizona is in November. Good luck with your training and let me know if you cross the line with any "health" left! LOL

Thank you, Julianne. I have a sinking feeling the cold won't stop the undead, only slow you down. Might want to rethink your plan...

Well to start with I've learned the 32 rules that helped Columbus survive. I also have a canal behind my house for water and plenty of means to purify it. There's only about a couple of months worth of food in the house so I would have to scavenge at a nearby grocery store but it's within running distance of the house (Rule #1). I also have a variety of guns, over 2k rounds, an ax, plenty of rum and wine. BTW, I have a bug-a-salt fly gun for all the pesky flies. Just got it last week and it's very fun!

ROTFL, now THAT'S the kind of exercise I could reall get behind - what fun! Mind you, I'd REALLY have to train for it! :-)
