God, the woman was obsessed. By the looks of things, this test was extremely important to her--more than he'd realized. Guilt over his deception made the acid churn in his stomach.

In a masochistic sort of way, I love when a hero does something he feels guilty about. It always makes me wonder what he's going to do to make up for it.
